Your Best Course yet, may be one you deliver yourself.

Have You Got What It Takes to Become a Teacher?

Do you have the passion and patience to train others? Teaching offers a unique opportunity to give back, share your talents, and inspire the next generation. However, it is certainly not an easy option.

The Journey Begins with Qualifications

First and foremost, ensuring you have the best qualifications is crucial. Ofqual-regulated qualifications are highly recommended. In addition to this, continuous professional development (CPD) courses are essential to keep up to date with the latest products, equipment, trends, and techniques.

Reflect on Your Learning Experiences

Think about the courses you have attended. What made them stand out? Was it the quality of the resources, the venue, or something more personal? Often, it is the trainer who makes the biggest difference. A great trainer inspires, makes you feel comfortable to ask questions, and delivers content in an easily understandable way.

The Essence of Teaching

Teaching goes beyond creating great resources. It involves helping, encouraging, and supporting others. We all remember a teacher who was merely going through the motions, showing little concern for whether students were following along.

Reflecting on my own experiences, I had a maths teacher, Mr. Johnson, who made me feel inadequate for asking questions, his response was always, I’ve already shown you how to do that. Well, he had of a fashion on a dirty chalk board using his less than legible scribble! While I admit I was never going to be the next Isaac Newton, this experience led me to dislike maths and affected the self-esteem of my vulnerable 9-year-old self.

Conversely, in secondary school I was blessed with the very best role model in the form of our deputy head Mrs. Rogers who was a strict yet nurturing teacher. She knew how to bring out the best in her students. Spending several years under her influence changed how I viewed education. She is the kind of teacher I aspire to be.

Adapting to Students’ Needs

A great teacher adapts to the learning styles and needs of their students. Learners should always feel safe and supported, knowing that their success matters to their teacher as much as it does to them, and that success isn’t just about exam results but the whole learning journey.

The Rewards and Challenges of Teaching

While some learners I must admit would test the patience of a saint, most are a delight and eager to learn. Even those who are tricky to begin with there is usually a reason, a barrier to learning we need to work on.  As a teacher, our role is to impart knowledge in a way that meets the needs of our learners. If you are passionate about the Hair, Beauty, or Nails industry and love sharing your knowledge, you are already halfway there.

Becoming a Qualified Teacher

To produce your own materials, run courses, or achieve Ofqual accreditation, you will need a teaching qualification. It’s not as daunting as it sounds and is well worth the effort. This qualification can open doors to teaching positions in further education colleges, private academies, or as a product company trainer.
